Progression report week 18

I have made RSS-feed, http://bacon.hiof.no/porkchops/rss.php, from whats in the database. And i have improved the simulation, http://bacon.hiof.no/porkchops/form.html, to handle image upload. This is now ready for a mobile GUI. There is a plan to test this on Isle of Wight, http://www.openstreetmap.org/.


Progression report week 17

Easter has gone by, and so have my computers. Hardware was dying all over the place. I managed to put bits and pieces from different computers and make one that worked. These hardware problems prevented me from having a productive easter.

But I have been able to gotten a first version of the database implemented, and a simulation the prosses of writing a article and getting an RSS-feed.

We had a meeting this week with some people from samfunnsfag og fremmedspråk, who are working on a project on how to make the readers more interested in local news.

We talked about using them as a usergroup to test the first prototype on. The testing will take place in the last week of april.

Status Report

I have made a presentation of my project. This is only in norwegian.

Due to sudden changes in mergin of projects it does not involve that part of the project. The other part is on the other partisipants blog. The two presentations will be merged as soon as possible.

I have lifted my nose from the code and made a diagram that describe the consept of this application.

This week I have been looking into userscenarios and databasestructure.

This week i have looked into different XML-technologies. I have been trying to figure out what would be the best to use for our system. The technologies I found interesting was RSS and Xquery. This will allow for easy adoption to other systems.

I have also been interested in the concept of AJAX, which will allow for a desktop application look and feel to the user interface.

I have spoken to Harald Jansson about mapmaking and WMS. He has given me some pointers about the creation of maps from geodata. He has also shown me some of his current map projects.

Flu and old codes. This week i was sick, so it was not a creative week. I managed to install Locus times on my server and take a look at it.

Also got the Freporter client form Audun Vaaler.


My first google map hack

After a lecture on mapping hacks and google maps i decided to make a hack my self.

The IRC channel #pludring once had a service where you gave your zip code to a bot and it placed you on the map. There were only one problem the map was to so you did not see anything other than a cluster of names all on top of each other. So the service was removed. Read the rest of this entry »
